Dr. Anwar has a wide range of clinical experiences that include individual and group therapy with adolescents and adults, couples, and families. She has worked in a variety of settings that include Howard Hospital’s Inpatient Psychiatric Unit, the D.C. Superior Court Child Guidance Clinic, the University of District of Columbia Counseling and Wellness Center, the George Washington University Center Clinic, private practice, and school-based services.
She works from a trauma-informed framework. Dr. Anwar’s approach is integrative with an emphasis on psychodynamic psychotherapy, highlighting the relational component. Her areas of specialty include treatment of depression, anxiety, relational difficulties, identity formation, and family of origin struggles. She applies a collaborative and empathetic approach with the aim to create room for and sustain self-discovery, compassion, and exploration for people of all backgrounds. Dr. Anwar speaks English, Urdu, Hindi, Pashto, and Dari.
